Ian Bernstein, CTO at smartphone-controlled gaming robot company Orbotix (Sphero), will share his experiences bringing ideas to the production stage at EE Live! 2014 as part of his talk for the Hardware Startup Engineering Summit.
EE Live! 2014 is the premier conference for electronics design engineers, entrepreneurs, and other professionals looking to learn about the industry’s current and future trends, as well as network with their peers. The event will take place March 31 – April 3 at the San Jose McEnery Convention Center, with a free expo also running on the last three days.
Running April 1 – 2, the Hardware Startup Engineering Summit will feature presentations aimed at helping engineers who want to create a new market, disrupt an existing one, or learn more about the agile product development strategies employed by successful hardware startups today. The summit will feature a rock star lineup of engineers who’ve had success founding their own startups.
Bernstein helped develop Sphero at Orbotix, a robot ball that’s revolutionizing gaming, augmented reality, and family game night. Prior to co-founding the company four years ago, he had never made more than 50 of any product, and the things he had worked on were used by hobbyists who are more tolerant to things in a product that average consumers are not.
He will deliver his talk on “Hardware Product Design: Ideas to Manufacturing” (April 01, 3:30 – 4:30PM at SJCC 210D), and share how he helped take Sphero from an idea to full-scale production. Bernstein will look some at some of the mistakes he made and how to avoid them, tips for refining your idea so you can get it into production, and things he’s learned while working with contract manufacturers to keep that process going smoothly.
